I read a blog post this morning that got me thinking. Thinking about the process of learning. The process of thinking. And the process of school.
We often know what we are preparing children for … Next year .. NAPLAN… Year 12 … But do we remember that really, what we are preparing them for is LIFE? I loved a quote that I found in another article recently, “We aren’t preparing for funerals in preschool, but we will all have experience of them.”Is there anything else to consider beyond what life our children are preparing for? What skills do they need to have ?
Our Year 6 teachers are currently working on a new model for their exhibition unit. They are engaging in a year-long process of preparing the children to share the journey of their learning. I wonder how often primary teachers, secondary teachers, parents, university lecturers look back on the process that has brought learners to them. Do I do that often enough? Do I consider the path that I am helping my learners create and how this will impact on their journey?
What will children remeber of the learning that they do with me? How with this help build their freeway for life?
