The next step in the Conference Dream …

The dream, in order , goes like this:

  1. Attend L2 Conference in Manila
  2. Bring back an L2 style conference to our staff
  3. Create an L2 style conference for our learners

Tick 1,2 and get ready to tick 3!

1.Conference was beyond inspiring.  I came back ready to launch 20% Time (known at Adventure Time in our class).

2. An amazing conference (#Unleashing Learning) has far reaching impact at our school.

3. #Passion Matters grows wings …

Our PYP co-ordinator and innovator extraordinaire , Edna, listens to me yapping on about the conference for students. She waits … seeking the right time. And then – she sees it. Year 6 children are preparing for their exhibition, and the Year 6 teachers feels it needs something  liberating, to set the children up, knowing that the process is about learning, thinking and inspiring. They decide that a Year 6 Conference about passions and interests would be the inspiration. And so … the next chapter begins to unfold.

Children need to own it, run it, take control and see it evolve.

We have our first response to our request for inspirational talks and workshops and we find a child  (L) who would like to respond to this amazing person, Daniel.

L and I sit together and review what Daniel  has said. “I’m excited!” he shivers.

“How will you respond?” I probe. And L begins to type. His response is vague and he is unsure how to articulate his feelings. We discuss options and he chooses his words carefully.

We edit, and he presses ‘send’. A life skill, taught in an authentic setting, for a specific purpose. Is this agency?

That shiver when you connect with someone who inspires you and shares passion is I believe a sign of spiritual awakening, what big memorable moments are made of. I treasure the shiver down the spine moments and share their recollection with others my life long as they are also contagious!
